After hearing the executive director of the Nurturing Center speak at an event, WIP members were inspired to reach out and do something to assist teen mothers. Among the 2010 grants that Women In Philanthropy distributed, the Nurturing Center received $3,500 to help provide parenting classes for local teen parents. Knowing a mother's needs, the Education & Advocacy Committee decided to organized a baby shower to provide supplies such as baby bottles, blankets, diapers, clothes and other items for mothers who need it most. The shower was held on April 29, 2010 at the Capital Senior Center.

n January of 2010 Women in Philanthropy members worked on two special projects. First, they assisted the boys at the Department of Juvenile Justice in creating gift bags for the kids of Palmetto Place Children’s Shelter, a safe house for kids escaping domestic violence. WIP volunteers then treated the kids of Palmetto Place Children’s Shelter to a special outing at the bowling alley. They ate pizza with the kids, gave them the gift bags, and then spent the rest of the time bowling with the children. It was a wonderful event and both the children and volunteers had a great time!
