Women in Philanthropy celebrates 10 years of giving in the Midlands!

Women in Philanthropy hosted their annual Member Social, featuring the Free Medical Clinic, Mental Illness Recovery Center Inc., the Salvation Army, and Trinity Housing Corporation--all of which are grant receivers from Women in Philanthropy.
Chakisse Newton shared her presentation on "Professional Presence."
Women in Philanthropy held a book drive, donating books to the Salvation Army, in order to promote and encourage literacy.
This year John Baker was honored as Humanitarian of the Year.

At their Christmas Kick-off, Salvation Army presented the Midlands Organization of the Year award to Women in Philanthropy "for expressing outstanding compassion to individuals and demonstrating excellence in volunteerism through The Salvation Army and the community at large."

At WIP's 8th annual Power of the Purse, 23 new investors joined the family,purses were auctioned off and all generous proceeds went to improve lives of women and children. The Capital City put on a great show, fully-equipped with a purse-shaped martini ice luge.
Dedicated community volunteers were recognized by United Way of the Midlands at its annual volunteer recognition event as a part of National Volunteer Week festivities on Thursday, April 14.

In March, Eric McClam, Farm Manager of City Roots provided an educational seminar and tour of City Roots Farm, a sustainable farm located in the heart of downtown Columbia near Owens Field Airport.
Pamela Eyring, President and Director of The Protocol School of Washington presented "Putting Your Best Foot Forward" at the monthly Food for Thought Luncheon on April 12.
150 of Columbia's women leaders filled the 701 Whaley hall and were inspired by keynote speaker, Chakisse Newton, as she shared the keys to leadership that are "common sense, but not common practice."
Mardie Faucette hosted a social at her family's historic home for fellow WIP members and guests on October 28, 2010. All members were encourage to bring friends to be introduced to the group and enjoyed an opportunity for networking.
WIP members enjoyed a delicious reception at the home of Stacy Lindenberg hosted by Stacy and Erin Cook. Many of our newest investors attended and were introduced.
About 35 investors met on Tuesday, June 22, to discuss the group's accomplishments so far this year. New committee members were introduced, the budget was reviewed and goals were announced.
The 7th annual Power of the Purse brought together a record-breaking crowd at the Capital City Club on May 20, 2010 for both a live and silent auction of purses.
