2007 Women in Philanthropy Request for Proposal (RFP)

Women in Philanthropy (WIP) is part of a larger national movement of women taking the activist role of philanthropy to seek long-term solutions through leadership, fundraising, advocacy and mentoring. Annual financial investments by women as well as various activities and programs raise monies to fund programs which address community advocacy issues.

The Women in Philanthropy (WIP) Human Services/Allocations Committee in collaboration with United Way evaluates areas of community need related to the Women in Philanthropy (WIP) focus on women and children. The committee presents potential funding topics to all members by surveys and/or polling member/investors resulting in a selection of an annual key area for investment. The amount of funds to be available in a given year will vary depending on the annual investments of member/investors and the success of fund raising for the prior year.

Community organizations applying for WIP funds must submit responses to the RFP (request for proposal) and complete that process. Human Services/Allocations Committee members manage this process by participating in proposal reviews, making site visits, recommending recipients, funding duration and reviewing progress reports. The committee will announce recipients, broadcast the volunteering needs of the grantees and keep WIP investors informed of progress.

The 2007 Women in Philanthropy request for proposal (RFP) is for provision of quality mentors/mentoring programs serving “at risk,” school-age youth designed to help children develop and succeed in school in Fairfield, Lexington, Newberry and Richland counties.  For this proposal “at risk” is defined as third through tenth grade school youth who have not achieved successful academic and social expectations related to school.  These students may be on the bubble based on PACT scores (basic - 41.25% or lower) and/or have a C or lower in one or more subjects.

The RFP in its entirety can be downloaded here.
